It's that time again! The Annual BJJ United In-house (Team Lloyd Irvin) tournament is right around the corner. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in testing themselves and gaining an invaluable experience. There's nothing like the tournament experience, come see for yourself!
Even better, BJJ United's tournament is inexpensive and double elimination, so no matter what every competitor gets at least two matches. Check out some of the action from last year's event!

If you can maintain the mount position indefinitely on your opponent, you're guaranteed to submit him or her. So how do you keep the mount? Well, here is a video we shot a while back on one of the ways to maintain the mount position when you have an opponent actively trying to escape.
As you can see, this technique can be easily practiced with or without a partner. If you need more evidence of it's effectiveness before you practice it, check out BJJ World Champion and UFC Lightweight Champ BJ Penn using it here during training:
Check out this video- it's a triangle set-up from the sidemount position. If you haven't already, make sure you take a look at the "Side Mount Drill" video, it sets up this triangle perfectly.
This past Wednesday we had the honor of hosting a seminar with BJJ World Champion and undefeated Pro MMA fighter Wilson Reis. The seminar was 2 hours and every minute was filled with awesome details as Wilson broke down some of his signature moves and showed step-by-step how to make them work.
The first hour was all No-Gi, the moves that Wilson used in his first few MMA fights to overwhelm his opponents. He showed takedowns, hot to control your opponent on the ground and how to seize the opportunity to finish and apply the submission. The second portion was all Gi techniques for sport Jiu-Jitsu. Wilson showed his famous "half-guard" techniques as well as the crazy spin he does to take the back and finish with the choke.
It was a pleasure to have Wilson at Paramount BJJ, and I look forward to having him back again in the near future! In the meantime stay tuned for more seminar announcements.
Wilson Reis will be at Paramount Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on Wednesday, December 12th at 7pm for a 2 hr. Gi and No Gi Seminar!! Wilson is a BJJ World Champion and undefeated MMA Fighter from Sao Paulo, Brazil who is now living in the US. He is incredibly busy with his teaching and training schedule so we are fortunate to have him at Paramount.
Everyone is welcome- from any and all schools, from any discipline and any skill level. Wilson is an awesome instructor with a great eye for details. Don't miss this opportunity to train with one of the BEST IN THE WORLD!
