Stopping the Mount Escape
If you can maintain the mount position indefinitely on your opponent, you're guaranteed to submit him or her. So how do you keep the mount? Well, here is a video we shot a while back on one of the ways to maintain the mount position when you have an opponent actively trying to escape.
As you can see, this technique can be easily practiced with or without a partner. If you need more evidence of it's effectiveness before you practice it, check out BJJ World Champion and UFC Lightweight Champ BJ Penn using it here during training:

Video Technique: Triangle from Sidemount
Check out this video- it's a triangle set-up from the sidemount position. If you haven't already, make sure you take a look at the "Side Mount Drill" video, it sets up this triangle perfectly.

Special Thanks to Wilson Reis
This past Wednesday we had the honor of hosting a seminar with BJJ World Champion and undefeated Pro MMA fighter Wilson Reis. The seminar was 2 hours and every minute was filled with awesome details as Wilson broke down some of his signature moves and showed step-by-step how to make them work.

The first hour was all No-Gi, the moves that Wilson used in his first few MMA fights to overwhelm his opponents. He showed takedowns, hot to control your opponent on the ground and how to seize the opportunity to finish and apply the submission. The second portion was all Gi techniques for sport Jiu-Jitsu. Wilson showed his famous "half-guard" techniques as well as the crazy spin he does to take the back and finish with the choke.

It was a pleasure to have Wilson at Paramount BJJ, and I look forward to having him back again in the near future! In the meantime stay tuned for more seminar announcements.

Congratulations Steve Johnson!
This past Saturday Brad promoted Steve Johnson to blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Steve is a lifelong martial artist who owns a fantastic Tae Kwon Do academy (champkarate.com) and is one of Paramount's most dedicated students. He's been training deligently for the past year and has shown tremendous improvement.

Steve has an "I can do anything if I put my mind to it" attitude and has overcome injuries and other set-backs to achieve his black belt in Taekwondo and now his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Great job, Steve!

New Video!
Check out this technique from the top sidemount. Sidemount is a great position because it allows you to completely control your opponent without the risk of submissions or strikes. Your opponent's only option is to try to escape. This technique and drill will help improve your sidemount control and allow you to work your submissions!
